Cigarette filters are made from cellulose acetate plastic and can take up to 10 years to disintegrate. Then it begins to break down into micro plastics, which is already a growing concern. Working alongside plastic recycling efforts, the filters are able to be made into plastic benches, couch cushions and even teddy bear fluff.
